DIY: Painted Front Door

Happy New Year! Many of us have created personal resolutions, but what about your home? It deserves a little TLC in 2023.

Can’t decide where to start? Here’s a quick (an relatively cheap!) option: slap on a fresh coat of paint to your entry door! The color options are endless. If you’re into feng shui, you may want to research what colors channel the vibes you’re trying to bring into your home this year. If you’re planning to stay in your home for a while, I say “do you!” Pick whatever color makes you happy!

However, if you’re thinking of listing this year, you may want to stick to something neutral. According to Home and Gardens, painting your door black can increase the sales price up to $6,500 on average.

No matter what color you decide, it’s a great idea to invest in a high quality exterior paint. Personally, I prefer a flat or satin finish, but it depends on how often you use your door, and how frequently the weather and environmental elements require cleaning or touchups. Most paint professionals will be happy to answer all of your questions before you purchase your paint.

My last tip for ALL painting projects: DO NOT skip the primer! Regardless of what color you’re painting over, primer creates a stain and smell barrier, as well as, a soft, smooth base for your color!
